Minnesota Ironman Bicycle Ride Takes to the St. Croix River Valley on Sunday

The 47th annual Minnesota Ironman Bicycle Ride will host about 4,500 cyclists this weekend in the St. Croix River Valley. The ride begins Sunday morning at the Washington County Fairgrounds. You ready to ride? Tell us about your training in the comments.

In the shadows of a spring full of snow and cold, the Minnesota Ironman Bicycle Ride will catch a break this weekend with forecasted temperatures in the 70s for the annual kickoff to the spring cycling season. After 13 years in the south metro, specifically Lakeville, the long-standing bike ride has been retooled, and will take place Sunday, April 28, in the St. Croix River Valley. The new course will start at the Washington County Fairgrounds and wind through Scandia, Stillwater, Afton, Lake Elmo, Marine on St. Croix and Oak Park Heights. Frigid Weather Ensures Lake Elmo Lions Annual Ice Fishing Contest

The Lake Elmo Lions ice fishing contest is set for Sunday, Feb. 3 from 1–3 p.m. on Lake Jane.

Old Man Winter has brought Minnesotans plenty of frigid weather lately, and locally, that will allow the Lake Elmo Lions to host their annual ice fishing contest on Lake Jane. “Last year the Lions Club had to cancel the contest due to thin ice,” Diane Knoll of the Lions Club said. “But now, with two weeks to spare, we can safely announce this year's contest thanks to this week's frigid temps.” The ice fishing contest is set for 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, on Lake Jane (located north of Highway 5 on Jamaca Avenue). Tickets are available for purchase at numerous Lake Elmo businesses prior to the contest for $4. Admission is $5 the day of the event.
