First Student-Run Postal Credit Union in Minnesota Opens at Tartan High School

Students at Tartan High School will be running a Postal Credit Union branch out of their school store. The new branch's ribbon cutting was held Wednesday morning.

Tartan High School is the home of Minnesota's first student-run Postal Credit Union. On Feb. 20, the representatives of the Postal Credit Union (PCU), Tartan students, school faculty and community members gathered to celebrate the opening the PCU Student Credit Union.  This is the third student credit union branch that has opened in a Minnesota high school, but it is the first that will be run by students, said Craig Spreiter, a marketing teacher at the high school. "I don't think there is another branch that is so student-driven," Spreiter said.  Spreiter dreamed of a student PCU at the high school since he first joined the teaching staff at Tartan. Skyview Elementary School Students Become Bankers for a Day

Fourth grade students got a behind-the-scenes look at a variety of jobs, and even practiced interviewing for employment.

  Students from Skyview Elementary School became “Bankers for a Day” Tuesday, Feb. 28, at the Woodbury Postal Credit Union. The fourth-graders got a behind-the-scenes look at a variety of jobs, including the teller line, member service, loans, contact center and collections. Students also had the chance to interview for employment and learned how member-owned credit unions differ from other financial service providers. “This is the fifth year PCU has invited students to our branch to learn more about what we do as a full-service credit union,” said Branch Manager Liz Fleischhacker. “The students ask great questions and are really interested in how we operate.
