Two men who attempted to rob Smokedale Tobacco last month have both been charged in Washington County District Court. Steven Rey Hassinger, 18, who has no permanent address, and Dominic Donte Hewitt, 20, of St. Paul, allegedly donned masks and tried to rob the smoke shop on Jan. 22. According to the criminal complaint, when police responded to a robbery in progress at Smokedale they saw a man running and pointing behind the Holiday gas station. Police located Hassinger hiding near the bushes behind All Family Dental. Police then apprehended Hewitt. Police also located a .22 caliber handgun in a garbage can at the gas station. Police responded to an aggravated robbery at Smokedale.
A masked gunman and cohort attempted to rob Smokedale on Tuesday. The Oakdale Police Department received a call about two men wearing masks who entered Smokedale and demanded money, according to the initial complaint. When the store owner told the men to leave the gunman pulled out a .22 caliber handgun and racked the slide, the complaint states. No money or merchandise was taken from the store. Police located the two men just north of the Holiday gas station. Police also recovered the handgun. Police also found five grams of marijuana on one of the suspects. Charges dropped due to lack of evidence, according to report.
Charges that Smokedale Tobacco owner Hatem A. Younis groped women on three occasions were dropped due to lack of evidence, the Oakdale-Lake Elmo Review reports. Surveillance video and photographic evidence caused the Washington County Attorney's office to push for dismissal of the charges against Younis, according to the report. Smokedale Tobacco owner Hatem A. Younis allegedly groped three women.
Smokedale Tobacco's owner was charged with allegedly luring three women from his Bergen Plaza store to office or warehouse space, forcing himself on them and groping them. Hatem A. Younis, 39, of Minneapolis, is charged in Washington County District Court with counts of third-, fourth- and fifth-degree criminal sexual conduct in connection with the alleged incidents. Smokedale Tobacco opened in its new location at 7141 10th Street N. in March, according to an employee at the store. The business now uses its old location at 7157 10th Street N. as warehouse and distribution space, according to Bergen Plaza's property manager.
