Are parent’s attitudes from the stands rubbing off on players?
During one of the first years my son played baseball, I remember a parent from an opposing team who routinely sat as close as he could to the field and constantly yelled at his son. No matter what his 9-year-old son did, apparently it was wrong in his father’s eyes. I felt bad for the kid, his teammates and, well, pretty much everyone that had to listen to it. I couldn't wait for the game to be over. Fast-forward to recently and we hear of incidents of player infractions such as recent fighting on the field during a Totino-Grace High School and Prairie Seeds Academy boys varsity soccer game. The competition in youth sports has seems like it is at a point where more parents are trying to “coach” from the stands and players might be taking …

The Oakdale City Council approved the Athletic Tournament Policy and Fees on Tuesday.
The Oakdale City Council approved Athletic Tournament Policy and Fees Tuesday night. Parks Superintendent Randy Bastyr presented the new policy to the council. The policy covers all tournaments that are pay to play, meaning if a group charges a fee to play a sport then the city will recoup some of the costs of field maintenance. Tournament scheduling requests are due on Feb. 1, with scheduling priority going to the Oakdale Athletic Association, School District 622 and the Oakdale Adult Softball Association. There are resident and non-resident fees. Groups must show proof that at least 75 percent of the …

Tartan gave up six runs in the fifth inning and lost to St. Thomas academy 8-6 Monday afternoon.
The Tartan Baseball team got out to an early 4-0 lead over St. Thomas Academy Monday afternoon, but couldn't hold on to win the game. The Titans started the game strong, scoring three runs in the first inning and one more in the second. However, in the top of the fifth inning, St. Thomas Academy rallied to score six runs and take a 7-4 lead. Tartan was able to get two of those runs back in the bottom of the inning to keep the game close, but it was not enough. Tartan had a final opportunity to tie or even win the game with the bases loaded and only one out in the seventh. However two consecutive outs in the field ended the game in disappointing and frustrating fashion for the Titans. Tartan's next game will be Wednesday May 11 at home …
