Ted Bearth will be sworn in on Jan. 8, 2012; Bill Pulkrabek plans for the future.
After 13 years, there will be a new county commissioner representing District 2 of Washington County. Longtime Washington County Commissioner Bill Pulkrabek was defeated by challenger Ted Bearth—the results came in early Wednesday morning, with Bearth taking 52 percent of the vote to 47 percent for Pulkrabek. Pulkrabek, 42, has served as a county commissioner since 1999. Before that he was the mayor of Oakdale from 1995 to 1998, a title he received in his mid-20s. Bearth said he has been encouraged to run for the Washington County Board since he first retired from the city council in 2004, but he often dismissed the idea and opted for retirement instead. City council candidates Stan Karwoski and Paul Reinke ran unopposed.
The city council elections went smoothly this year. After all, both candidates were running unopposed. Incumbents Stan Karwoski and Paul Reinke were re-elected early Wednesday morning, according to unofficial results from the Minnesota Secretary of State. Results are not official until they are verified by the local canvassing board. Both were elected to four-year terms. This will be Karwoski's third, full term, having served a partial term in 2002. This will be Reinke's third term. Both are long-time Oakdale residents. Oakdale Patch caught up with Karwoski and Reinke after the elections to get their thoughts about re-election and city projects. Ted Bearth won the Washington County District 2 seat against incumbent Bill Pulkrabek.
A new face will be representing District 2 of Washington County, according to unofficial results from the Minnesota Secretary of State. Ted Bearth unseated incumbent Bill Pulkrabek for the District 2 seat with 11,123 votes (52 percent). Pulkrabek received 10,054 votes (47 percent). All 17 precincts reported their numbers just before 2 a.m. Wednesday. Pulkrabek has served as a Washington County commissioner since 1999. Before that he was the mayor of Oakdale from 1995 to 1999. Pulkrabek underwent heavy scrutiny when he was involved in a domestic incident stemming from last year. Unofficial results show that Leon Lillie (DFL) beat Kevin Klein (GOP) for the state House of Representatives District 43B.
Leon Lillie (D) will be representing Houst District 43B, according to unofficial results from the Minnesota Secretary of State. Lillie beat challenger Kevin Klein (R) with 12,445 votes (60 percent) while Klein received 8,111 votes (39 percent). All 12 precincts reported their numbers just before 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. Three incumbents and one newcomer were elected to the District 622 school board, according to unofficial results from the Minnesota Secretary of State. Incumbents Nancy Livingston, Steve Hunt and Theresa Auge` were re-elected while newcomer Becky Neve was also elected to the school board. Livingston took the lead with 23 percent of the votes from both Washington (8,525) and Ramsey (8,815) counties; Hunt took 19 percent of the Washington County vote (7,041) and 20 percent of the Ramsey County vote (7,887); Auge` took 20 percent of the vote in both Washington (7,386) and Ramsey (7,882) counties; Neve took 18 percent of the Washington County vote (6,692) and 17 percent of the Ramsey County vote (6,693) . JoAnn Ward (DFL) will be representing House District 53A, according to unofficial results from the Minnesota Secretary of State. Ward beat challenger Pam Cunningham (GOP) with 11,932 votes (56 percent) while Cunningham received 9,269 votes (43 percent). All 14 precincts reported their numbers just after 1:00 a.m. Wednesday. With 80 percent of the precincts in the Fourth Congressional District McCollum has been projected the winner over GOP candidate Tony Hernandez.
U.S. Rep. Betty McCollum (DFL) has been elected to her seventh term as representative of the Fourth Congressional District, various news outlets are reporting. Stillwater and Woodbury are newcomers to the Fourth Congressional District, which has been represented by a Democrat since the 1940s. McCollum faced GOP challenger Tony Hernandez. Minnesota's voting goes until 8 p.m., but some polls elsewhere close two hours earlier.
Minnesota and Wisconsin voters have until 8 p.m. to cast their Election 2012 ballots, but voting in other key states ends as much as two hours before then, and exit polling could provide an early indication of whether President Obama or Mitt Romney wins the White House. The earliest key state to watch for is Virginia, where polls close at 6 p.m. Minnesota time. Voting ends 30 minutes later in swing states Ohio and North Carolina. At 7 p.m. swing states Florida, Pennsylvania and New Hampshire close their polls.
