On the article UPDATED: Shots Fired, Child Killed After Oakdale Shooting

Melpa: You're misconstruing my message. We can discuss every angle of this event without using the name of the killer even once. Many if not most of these people act at least partly for the instant fame they achieve. Deny him that. Discuss motives and methods all you like, just don't give the perpetrator notoriety for it. If random shooters knew they would die in obscurity, I wager we'd have many fewer random shooters. I have a hunch you will agree with me if you pay attention to what it is I'm saying.

ReplyLet's NOT discuss who the shooter was. Let's leave him anonymous and nameless. Let's do our best to make him a forgotten nobody, so that others don't think this is the fast lane to getting famous.

On the article Bill to Lift Ban on Sunday Liquor Sales in Minnesota Reintroduced, But is it a Good Idea?

ReplyI would rather shop locally, but as things are I just head to Hudson on Sundays for liquor. It's only a few miles farther, not a really big deal when you live in Oakdale. I can say, though, that I buy virtually all my liquor on Saturdays and Sundays, and being closed on Sundays is a pain in the butt for me. Close Monday through Thursday, I won't even notice, but if I decide to have someone over Sunday evening, it's off to Hudson.

ReplyIf found guilty, a maximum sentence of 15 years is necessary to keep this moron out of his kids' home until they are safely grown up. Child abusers deserve no leniency, ever.

On the article Oakdale Disc Golf Course Issue Comes to a Halt

ReplyI've been a disc golfer since 1984, and an Oakdale resident since 1991, so I've given this a lot of thought over the years. I have to agree, there's no city property even close to adequate for a course. One spot in Oakdale would be ideal, but I have no idea who owns it: The area at the northwest corner of the 694/94 exchange, bordered by 4th St. and Hadley Ave. Anybody know if that property's owner might be amenable? (Disc golf can be a small profit center. Kaposia Park in South St. Paul gets $5 per round or $40 for a season pass and is always busy.)

ReplyA well-managed hangout for teens would be nice. Snacks for sale, a sound system where kids take turns playing something off their ipods, maybe ping-pong, foosball and pool tables, frozen pizzas you buy and bake yourself in toaster ovens, maybe a smoothy bar, a couple of computers, wifi, possibly a tv or two. Always two adults on duty, zero tolerance of tobacco, etc. Could even have a couple pieces of workout equipment in a partitioned area.

ReplyCongratulations to Dr. Bezek and to Shakopee schools. A great choice on their part, a great loss on ours. Finding his equal will not be an easy thing.

ReplyGreat wrestling, TJ! Couldn't get downtown, but caught you on the live video feed. (Alex couldn't get the feed to work, so I Skyped him in Duluth and turned on screen sharing so he could see the championship. He says: "What a man!") Congratulations.
Eli and Jake, too. The big show is big, isn't it? Now you've been there! Great season, guys!
